Puppy's First Vet Visit

Within 48hrs of acquiring your new dog, a trip to the vet is highly recommended. This will allow your pet to be introduced to their health care team, and assure that your puppy is off to a healthy start.

On arrival to the veterinary hospital or clinic, your puppy will be greeted by an enthusiastic receptionist. It is important that the first visit be a positive one for your pet. The receptionist will take a brief history from you prior to seeing the doctor. They will seem to ask a lot of questions like where is the puppy from, what puppy is eating, feeding schedules and medical history to start. This first history is important as it will help us determine the best recommendations for your pup’s optimal health.

You will then meet your veterinarian, who will review the history, and likely ask a few questions of their own. A thorough physical exam will be performed and will check all the major body systems. During the puppy exam, we will concentrate on the detection of congenital problems, such as heart murmurs, which may have been present and undetected since birth; as well as common puppy issues like the presence of ectoparasistes, such as ear mites, fleas or lice.
