What can I feed my kitten or cat?

There are as many opinions on pet foods as there are brands to choose from and this can make choosing the right food for your pet a daunting task. Always choose a food formulated for cats or kittens, depending on the age of your pet. Cats have specific nutritional needs that are different from other species such as dogs, thus they should be fed cat food only.

Kittens require a kitten food because they have different nutritional requirements than fully grown cats. Kittens should eat kitten food until they are at least 12 months old. After this time, they should be switched to an adult food.

Most cats over the age of one year can eat adult food.

Dry, canned and semi-moist foods are available. There are even specialty diets that can be prescribed by your veterinarian if your cat has specific dietary needs. Some examples of such diets are diets for cats with kidney disease, diabetes, and even diets for cats who are seniors or cats that need to lose a lot of weight.
