Crate Training

There are many good reasons to start crate training and the easiest time to do this is when your dog is a puppy.

  • All puppies need to learn the skill of resting calmly in a crate or small area. This skill can come in handy when unexpectedly required later on in life.
  • Travel by plane, or to a hotel, boarding kennel or someone’s house will likely require your pet to tolerate a crate.
  • Veterinary care and/or at-home nursing may require crate restriction for certain conditions
  • Crating can help confine a puppy during destructive chewing stages: this can minimize damage not only to your property, but potentially be life-saving for your pup.
  • Occasionally, with unexpected family changes, some dogs will experience separation anxiety. Proper crate training as a puppy can support a puppy at this time. A crate can be seen as a safe place.
